Backing up your website while working on it is an important task. In fact, any web designer will tell you that having a backup of your website is crucial in case you make a mistake while working on a website project.
Website Tonight makes backups (and restores!) easy!
There are several times when Website Tonight will prompt you to make a backup automatically. This sets automatic recover points for possible future use. Website Tonight will usually backup your website automatically when you choose to publish, or if you select to "Restart your website" (which starts you from an empty website if you ever need to start fresh).
You might also want to backup your Website Tonight project manually.
To backup your Website Tonight project manually:
From within the website tonight page designer, hover your mouse over the "Manage" tab and select "Backup/Restore" from the drop down menu.
Then, in the "Backup Current Project" section, enter a name for the backup. This can be whatever you like, and the exact date and time of the backup is automatically recorded so there is no need to include it in the name of the backup itself. This is just a friendly name to help you recall which backup to restore, if you ever need it.
After you have entered a name for this website copy, select the "Save Web Site" button to the right of the name field, and your project will be automatically saved in moments! This now gives you a convenient place to recover in case you make a difficult-to-fix error later on.
That's it! Feel free to make as many mistakes as you would like! You can restore your backups at any time, and multiple copies of your backups can be created as well.
To Restore a backup copy of a Website Tonight Project:
To restore a backup copy of a Website Tonight Project, hover your mouse over the "Manage" tab and select "Backup/Restore" from the drop down menu.
At the bottom of the page there will be a listing of your currently available backups arranged by the date the backup was made. To restore a backup, simply hit the "Up" facing arrow to the right of the backup's date that you wish to restore.
You will be prompted to make a backup of your current project just in case, and then the restore will automatically restore your content to the time you made the backup.
Once you are satisfied with any needed changes, simply re-publish the site to make it live from the restored backup.
